PageSense FAQ

General

  • Can I experiment with pages behind login sessions?

Yes, you can experiment with pages behind login sessions, using our Chrome extension. You simply have to install our code snippet in the page and create an experiment with the same URL.

  • What cookies are stored by PageSense?

There are six cookies that are placed in the visitor's browser:

    zabUserId

This cookie sends the unique id of every visitor who is part of the experiment. It has a lifespan of 12 months.

    zabVisitId

This cookie sends the unique id for every visit the visitor makes. It changes each time they visit.

    ZabSplit

This cookie is set when the split experiment redirects the user to a page with the same domain as the current one. It sends a key value pair containing the experiment key and variation key of the split experiment, along with the returning status of the user.

    zabBucket

This cookie sends a key value pair containing the experiment key and the variation key assigned to the visitor. It has a lifespan of 12 months.

    zabHMBucket

This cookie sends the key value of the heatmap experiment selected for the user. Its lifespan is 12 months.

    achievedGoals

This cookie keeps track of the goals fulfilled by the user. It's used to indicate whether the goal is fulfilled by the visitor the first time or if it has been done before.

  • Will a test work if the visitor doesn’t accept cookies and has deactivated JavaScript?

No, it won't. We exclude visitors who don't accept cookies and have deactivated JavaScript from the experiment.

Code installation

  • Will adding the code snippet affect my page load time?

Adding an asynchronous code snippet won't affect your page load time. However, installing our synchronous code or using Google Tag Manager to install either of our code snippets might affect the page load time.

  • When should I use an asynchronous code snippet?

We recommend that you use the asynchronous code snippet when you're conducting a Funnel Analysis or Heatmap experiment. Using an asynchronous code snippet in tests can cause a "flicker" on the page when the original loads, followed immediately by the variation.

An asynchronous code loads in parallel to your webpage and does not affect the loading time of your website. The asynchronous code has a timer set for the pages to load and if a page fails to load within the set time, it stops execution and the original website version is displayed instead.

  • When should I use a synchronous code snippet?

We recommend that you use the synchronous code snippet when you're conducting an A/B test or a Split URL test. Using a synchronous code snippet has negligible effect on the page's load time.

A synchronous code snippet executes each function or statement in HTML code one after the other, following the

tag. If the synchronous code snippet fails to execute, it will block any further execution of the code.

Spaces, Projects, and Experiments:

  • What's the difference between a Project and a Space?

In PageSense's hierarchy, Space ranks the highest, followed by Project and Experiment. Every user has one Space they can invite multiple users to. A Project can contain any number of experiments (A/B test, Split URL test, Heatmap and Funnel Analysis).

It's a good practice is to create a project for every domain. All the experiments in this project can then be on pages related to the specific domain.

Learn more about assigning user based roles.

  • Is it possible to run specific experiments on multiple domains?

Yes, a single experiment can run on multiple domains. That said, it's a good practice to create a project for every domain. All the experiments in this project can then be on pages related to the specific domain.

  • Can I add multiple users to my experiment?

You can only add users at the Space and Project levels. Any user you add will have access to experiments under the particular space or project, depending on their role. Click here to learn more.

  • Can I add multiple users to my project?

Yes, you can add multiple users to your project at any time. Any user added to your project will be able to access the experiments within, depending on their role. Click here to learn more.

A/B tests

  • Why does the original version load very briefly before the variation?

This "flicker" happens if you have installed the asynchronous code snippet on your page. To avoid this, install the synchronous code snippet on your page. Doing so might have a negligible effect on the page's load time.

  • How does deleting a variation while the test is running affect its results?

Deleting a variation won't affect the test's overall result. However, you won't be able to delete a variation while the test is running. You can only do so after you pause the test.

Once you delete a variation and relaunch the test, all of that variation's data will be deleted from the reports.

  • Can A/B testing penalize my organic search ranking (SEO)?

No, A/B tests have no impact on your site’s search engine rankings.

The source code of your page isn't changed when editing with our visual editor. That means the search engines will see the original content on your webpage, even if the variation loads. The changes you make are applied on the client’s browser side with JavaScript, and can't be interpreted by the search engine’s indexation robots.

During a split test (testing with redirects), we use JavaScript redirects as search engines recommend.

Google is aware of the practice of conducting A/B tests. You won't be penalized as long as you don’t present different versions by user-agent. For more information, read Google’s official position on this subject.

  • How are the monthly visitors counted?

We count unique visitors for every experiment. For example: If the same visitor is part of 3 different experiments (heatmap, funnel analysis and A/B test) in a month, then that visitor is counted three times.

  • What happens if I exceed the visitor count in my plan?

Running experiments will be paused but you'll still be able to access your configuration and reports. You can purchase a top-up plan at any time.

  • Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?

Yes, at any time you like. Your plan will be upgraded as soon as you opt for it. Ifyou opt for a downgrade, it will be carried out at the end of your billing cycle.

  • I'm subscribed to a yearly plan; how will I be billed?

You'll need to make a one-time payment for the annual plan based on the visitor count in the subscription you've chosen.

  • Will I have access to my data if I downgrade my plan?

Of course! When you downgrade your plan, you'll still have access to all the experiments' configurations and reports. You'll be billed based on the visitor count and the number of projects, depending on your plan type. If you have more projects than your plan covers after you downgrade, the experiments in those will be paused. You can choose which projects you want to work with.
