Creating and activating a session recording experiment
Create a Session Recording experiment to see a recording of a visitor interacting with your website. We recommend that you notify your visitors that their behavior is being tracked via website cookies.
Step 1: Click Session Recording on the experiment panel on the left and click New Session Recording.
Step 2: Give this Session Recording experiment a name.
Step 3: Under the Configuration tab, define the pages to track by choosing the match type from the Type dropdown and entering the corresponding value in the next field. Learn more about match types here.
You can also exclude specific web pages from being recorded by clicking the Exclude Pages option.
Step 4: Choose the number of visitors to record in the Number of Recordings section.
Step 5: Click Next to move to the Audience tab. Select the type of audience you want to record.
We record all visitors by default. You can choose from the preset target audience segments or create a new segment by clicking the +Custom Audience button.
Step 6: Click Next to move to the Privacy tab. Under the Elements to Mask section, enter the selector IDs of the elements you want to mask in the recording. Learn more on how to mask elements, why masking elements is important and which elements to mask.
All keystrokes made by the visitor not be recorded by default and instead be replaced by asterisks (*).
Under this segment, you'll also find advanced privacy settings. You can choose the enable them based on your requirements.
Further, you can also choose to show your visitors a banner informing them that they are being tracked. This is a good practice to ensure all privacy standards are met. Learn how to show this banner using PageSense.
Step 7: Click Activate.
PageSense will begin recording your chosen audience's engagement with your website. If you wish to pause this experiment and stop recording, click the Pause button. Click Relaunch to start running the experiment again.
You can also edit the experiment's configuration while it's paused.
NOTE: Make sure you have added the code snippet on all the web pages included in your experiment.
